UCS Advisory Board
The goal of the UCS project group is to improve communication between students and Undergraduate Career Services. This committee has been one of Yale College Council’s most active groups in the last several years; last year, the committee sent out a survey to the entire student body asking students to rate a variety of opportunities offered by UCS. We have found that students are often unaware of services provided by UCS, such as information sessions, counseling appointments, and UCS distribution lists with valuable deadlines for internships/jobs. Our mission was to assess how often these services are being used and determine how to better market them to the Yale community—we found that bringing advising services and career workshops to the residential colleges was the option students said they would take advantage of most. As a result, the committee collaborated with UCS Deans and administrators to create the UCS Residential College Advisory Board. Comprised of two residential college Deans and two Masters, the Director and Dean of UCS, the Chair of the YCC UCS Committee, and 12 residential college student-advisors who have been extensively trained in career counseling and resume services (and who will now hold office hours in the residential colleges themselves!), the Advisory Board will meet monthly to ensure that students’ advising needs are being met. UCS and YCC will also be collaborating this coming year to bring a number of career service workshops to the residential colleges with the UCS-YCC Career Workshop Series.
